It is really important in a relationship that both people in the home are present for the big decisions on design. Why do I say this? I will cite a couple of examples. For instance it is common (more than you would think!) for couples to keep financial secrets from each other. Men and women have very different ways of putting this into action. Men usually purchase big ticket items for example, a car, a boat, or a motorcycle, without feeling the need to tell their spouse of this expenditure. Women usually spend less money in this area, for example, they purchase clothing, personal beauty items, or perhaps furnishings. The deception comes from the same psychological place: fear of judgement, avoiding an argument, or exerting independence.

Usually, this isn't a big deal, but it could be warning signs of a relationship in trouble. How can this be resolved? One way, is open communication. You can do this by setting a financial meeting time for about one hour once a week. Sometimes couples have separate bank accounts just for each one to spend what they want exactly how they want. Whatever the case is for you, it can be something that can be resolved.

How couples can successfully navigate the dark waters of design.

This is why we stress that both parties be in on the design project from the beginning. Both people have a vested interest and have a valid point of view. So how do we get couples to agree on design? Well, below is a reading of a blog post we found in the Kempler Design blog treasure chest, Please click the link and you can hear our view on how couples can successfully navigate the tricky waters of design when both people have different decorating tastes. And remember to let us know what you think in the comments section. We love open communication!

Still wondering why this is such a big deal? Maybe you heard about Ryan Reynolds recently purchasing a soccer team without letting his wife in on the decision? Apparently they are "still working through that one." Check out this link:
